Super Indy Champ is one of those weird little SNES racing games that never made it out of Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this janky charm to it. You’ve got these chunky, colorful cars sliding around tight tracks with a weirdly satisfying sense of speed, even if the handling takes some getting used to.
First thing you’ll notice? The announcer yelling in Japanese when you pick your car (good luck understanding it if you don’t speak the language). The tracks are surprisingly detailed for a mid-tier racer, with some cool elevation changes and tight corners that’ll send you spinning if you’re not careful. It’s not as polished as, say, F-Zero, but there’s something fun about how over-the-top the whole thing feels.
Definitely a hidden gem if you’re into retro racing games with personality. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo-level realism.
