Super Ice Hockey on SNES is one of those classic sports games that somehow nails the chaos of hockey without getting too complicated. You pick your team—I always went for the red guys, no idea why—and then it's straight into fast, arcade-style matches where the puck zips around like it's on caffeine. The controls are simple enough that you can pull off slapshots and body checks within minutes, but there's a weirdly satisfying rhythm to it once you get the hang of passing.
Graphics are pure 16-bit charm, with chunky sprites and this weirdly hypnotic crowd animation in the background. The sound effects are peak retro too—that "thwack" when you hit the boards never gets old. It's not the deepest hockey sim out there, but if you want something quick, loud, and occasionally brutal (seriously, the ref just ignores like 90% of penalties), this one’s a blast. Perfect for killing 20 minutes between meetings or reliving that 90s couch rivalry with a friend.
