Super Hockey on SNES is one of those games that nails the simple, chaotic fun of arcade-style sports. You pick your team—I always go for the red guys, no idea why—and then it’s straight into fast, messy hockey with big sprites and even bigger hits. The controls are basic (pass, shoot, check), but that’s the charm—no complicated strategies, just pure slapshots and body checks.
What surprised me was how slippery the players feel at first, like they’re actually on ice. Took me a game or two to stop crashing into the boards every five seconds. Once you get the hang of it, though, the matches get intense, especially against a friend. The AI isn’t exactly genius, but it’ll punish you if you leave the goal wide open.
No frills, no deep career mode—just quick, loud hockey that holds up way better than it should for a 16-bit game. If you’ve got a buddy around, it’s a riot. Just don’t blame me when you start elbowing the air after a close game.
