Super Hockey on SNES is one of those classic arcade-style sports games that somehow nails the chaos of hockey without getting too bogged down in realism. You pick your team—France, Canada, whoever—and jump straight into fast, scrappy matches where checking opponents into the boards never gets old. The controls are simple (pass, shoot, body-check), but the puck physics have that perfect mix of slippery and unpredictable.
First time I played, I went straight for the slap shot and accidentally sent the puck flying over the glass. The pixelated crowds actually boo when you mess up, which is a nice touch. It’s not the deepest hockey sim out there, but if you want quick, loud, and occasionally ridiculous 5-on-5 action, this one holds up surprisingly well.
