About Super Hockey (europe)
Super Hockey came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Sunsoft. It was one of several hockey games on the system, arriving at a time when sports titles were becoming more common and trying to carve out their own space on the 16-bit console.
You control a five man hockey team, switching between players to pass the puck, check opponents, and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore the other team within three periods. A couple of its specific mechanics include a turbo button for a short burst of speed and the ability to perform a one timer for quick shots off a pass. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer can be surprisingly aggressive, making it a challenge to maintain possession. It feels like a straightforward, physical game of hockey where a well timed check can be as satisfying as scoring a goal.
