About Super Hockey '94 (japan)
Super Hockey '94 came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Yonezawa PR21. It was one of many sports titles on the system, arriving during a period when developers were refining the mechanics of arcade-style hockey games for home consoles.
You control a five man hockey team, switching between players to handle the puck, pass to teammates, and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore your opponent before the final period ends. The game features a notable one timer mechanic, where you can fire a quick shot directly from a pass, and a body check system that lets you physically separate opponents from the puck. The pacing is fast, with the computer providing a decent challenge on higher settings, forcing you to manage your positioning and anticipate plays. It feels responsive and direct, a solid translation of hockey's constant back and forth onto the 16 bit hardware.
