Super Godzilla came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Toho. It was one of the few attempts to bring the kaiju into a traditional action game on the console, arriving at a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate giant monster battles into a satisfying play experience.

You control Godzilla from an overhead perspective, navigating him screen by screen across a map of Japan. Your main goal is to repel an alien invasion by fighting a series of other monsters, including familiar Toho creatures like Biollante. The gameplay is split between a strategic map where you choose your next destination and real-time battles that play out like a slow, methodical brawler. You build up a power meter to unleash special attacks, and you must also manage your position to avoid enemy beams and strikes. The pacing can feel deliberate, almost sluggish, and the difficulty comes from learning each monster's patterns and timing your heavy attacks correctly. It feels like piloting a slow, powerful tank through a city made of cardboard, where every step and every blast carries a significant weight.
