Super Ghouls and Ghosts is one of those SNES games that looks gorgeous but will absolutely wreck you. You play as Arthur, this knight in clanky armor who moves like he’s wading through molasses—until you realize that’s the whole point. The controls feel stiff at first, but once you get the rhythm down, dodging fireballs and zombie crows becomes this weirdly satisfying dance.
The levels are packed with monsters popping out of nowhere, and you’ll die. A lot. But the pixel art is so detailed—gloomy castles, haunted graveyards, all that good stuff. And the music? Perfectly spooky. Just don’t expect to beat it in one sitting unless you’ve got nerves of steel (or a save state cheat).
Oh, and pro tip: Throwing lances feels way better than the dagger. Trust me on that.
