Super Formation Soccer '96 - World Club Edition is one of those SNES soccer games that flew under the radar outside Japan, but it’s got this weirdly satisfying arcade feel to it. The controls are simple—pass, shoot, sprint—but matches get surprisingly tense when you’re down a goal in the second half. Teams are all fictional clubs, which is a bummer if you wanted real names, but the gameplay’s snappy enough that you stop caring after a few matches.

What stands out is the formation system. You can tweak your lineup before each game, shifting players into weird positions just to see what happens. I wasted half an hour putting all my defenders up front once—didn’t work, but the chaos was hilarious. The pixel art’s clean, chunky, and the crowd animations are weirdly hypnotic in that 16-bit way.

It’s not the deepest soccer sim, but if you want something fast and slightly chaotic with that classic SNES vibe, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect FIFA-level realism.
