Super Fire Pro Wrestling III is one of those SNES wrestling games that just nails the feel of old-school Japanese puroresu. The sprites are chunky but full of personality, and the moves have this satisfying weight to them—like when you hit a German suplex and the crowd actually reacts like it’s a big deal.
At first, the controls take a second to click (grappling feels a little stiff compared to modern stuff), but once you get the timing down, the matches flow surprisingly well. There’s a weird charm to the roster too—half the wrestlers are real Japanese legends, and the other half are these bizarre original characters with wild backstories. I still don’t know why there’s a ninja wrestler, but I’m not complaining.
If you’re into retro wrestling games, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect flashy finishers—it’s all about that classic, grounded grappling.
