Super Famista 5 is one of those classic Japanese baseball games that never made it overseas, which is a shame because it’s way more fun than most of the stiff MLB sims we got in the '90s. The menus are all in Japanese, but you don’t need to read much—just pick a team (I always go for the Giants, obviously) and start swinging. The pitching mechanics feel surprisingly tight, and there’s something satisfying about nailing a home run with that SNES "thwack" sound effect.
Graphics are bright and cartoony, with these little chibi players who actually have some personality. Fielding takes a second to get used to since the camera angle shifts, but once you do, diving for catches feels great. And yeah, you can totally play it on an emulator if you don’t have the original cart lying around.
It’s not the deepest baseball game ever, but it’s way more addictive than it has any right to be.
