Super Famista 4 is one of those classic Japanese baseball games that never made it overseas, which is a shame because it’s actually way more fun than most of the MLB stuff we got on the SNES. The pixel art is crisp, the animations are smooth, and the gameplay is surprisingly deep—once you figure out the menus, anyway (good luck if you don’t read Japanese).
You’ve got full team management, a season mode, and even a home run derby. The pitching mechanics feel tight, and batting has just enough timing-based challenge to keep you swinging for the fences. It’s not as flashy as modern baseball games, but there’s something satisfying about the way the fielders dive for catches or the crowd cheers after a clutch hit.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a hidden gem. Just be ready to mash buttons until you memorize what each menu option does.
