I remember picking up Super Dunk Star for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1993. It was published by Sammy Studios, a name you didn't see on too many carts. This was during that great era on the SNES where you could find all sorts of sports games trying new things, not just the usual licensed titles from the big companies.

You control a single basketball player on a fixed screen court, and the main goal is to outscore your opponent before the timer runs out. The core of the game is its one-on-one gameplay. You dribble, you shoot, and you try to block your opponent's shots. A couple of its signature mechanics are the special dunks you can perform and the way you can steal the ball with a well-timed button press. The pacing is pretty fast, and the computer opponent can be surprisingly tough, making you work for every point. It feels like a quick, arcade-style test of your reflexes more than a deep simulation.
