Super Double Yakuman II is one of those deep-cut Japanese mahjong games that never made it West—which is a shame, because it’s got this weirdly addictive energy. You start off with the usual tile-matching chaos, but the AI players actually talk trash in little text bubbles when they steal your wins. The backgrounds are these over-the-top 90s anime-style scenes, and there’s a weirdly intense soundtrack that makes every round feel like a showdown.
First time I booted it up, I had no idea what half the kanji meant, but the tile designs are clean enough that you can muddle through. Pro tip: stick to the "easy" CPU opponents unless you enjoy getting steamrolled by digital old men who apparently have a sixth sense for stealing your last tile. It’s the kind of game where you lose three hours to "just one more round" and suddenly it’s 2 AM.
Definitely a niche pick, but if you’re into retro mahjong or just want something different from the usual SNES lineup, this one’s got personality to spare.
