Super Donkey Kong ’99 Game

Super Donkey Kong '99 on the Genesis is one of those weird, late-era platformers that somehow nails the feel of the arcade classics while doing its own thing. You start off jumping between vines like you’d expect, but then suddenly there’s this weird level where you’re bouncing on giant bananas—it’s chaotic in the best way.
The graphics are surprisingly crisp for a Genesis game, with Donkey Kong’s fur actually looking kinda textured? And the music—some of those jungle beats get stuck in your head for days. It’s not just a rehash of the old arcade formula, either. There’s this one boss fight against a mechanical Kremling that took me way too many tries to figure out.
If you’ve got a soft spot for janky-but-charming retro platformers, this one’s a blast. Just don’t blame me when you’re muttering about barrel physics at 2 AM.
