About Super Conflict - The Mideast
Super Conflict: The Mideast came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that wave of strategy games on the console that tried to translate complex, turn based warfare into something you could manage with a controller. This one stood out because it wasn't set in a fantasy world or distant future; it was rooted in a modern, real world conflict, which gave it a different kind of weight.
You command the military forces of either NATO or the Warsaw Pact, moving individual units like tanks, infantry, and aircraft across a hexagonal grid map. The main goal is to eliminate all of your opponent's units or capture their headquarters. Key mechanics include managing supply lines to keep your units in fighting shape and using different terrain types for defensive advantages. The game is methodical and can be quite difficult, demanding careful planning several moves ahead. Playing it feels like a tense, slow burn chess match where a single misstep can unravel your entire front line.
