Super Chinese World 3 on SNES is one of those weird, charming beat 'em ups that feels like it was made just for you if you grew up renting random cartridges. You pick between two little martial arts dudes—one’s fast but weak, the other’s slow but hits like a truck—and then you’re immediately thrown into streets packed with goons in ridiculous outfits. The first level has you smashing through fruit stands and kicking guys in frog masks, which, yeah, makes zero sense, but that’s part of the fun.

What I love is how the game doesn’t take itself seriously. You’ll fight sumo wrestlers who bounce when you hit them, dodge rolling pandas (because why not?), and occasionally stumble into these weird mini-games that feel like someone’s inside joke. The controls are simple—just jump and punch—but some enemies actually require timing instead of button mashing, which keeps things from getting stale.

It’s not the deepest game, but the sprite work is colorful, the music’s got that classic SNES charm, and there’s something satisfying about clearing a screen of enemies with a well-placed spin kick. If you’re into retro beat ‘em ups with personality, this one’s a solid time.
