Super Castles is one of those weird little SNES gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s a solid mix of castle defense and light strategy. You’re basically building up your fortress while waves of enemies try to smash through your walls, and there’s something oddly satisfying about watching your archers pick off knights before they even reach the gate.
At first, I thought it was just another tower defense clone, but the unit upgrades and terrain choices actually matter. Mess up your layout early, and you’ll spend the next five minutes watching your defenses crumble. The pixel art’s got that classic SNES charm too—tiny soldiers with oversized helmets, crumbling stone towers, the works.
Definitely worth a look if you’re into retro strategy games that don’t overcomplicate things. Just don’t expect an English patch unless you’re cool with menus in Japanese.
