Super Black Bass on SNES is one of those weirdly addictive fishing games where you don’t expect much at first—until suddenly you’ve spent an hour trying to land a single stubborn bass. The pixelated lakes look surprisingly chill, and the controls are simple: cast, wait for a nibble, then mash buttons to reel it in without snapping the line.

What I didn’t expect was how tense it gets when a big one bites. The rod bends, the line tension meter freaks out, and you’re sweating over whether to reel harder or ease up. There’s something satisfying about upgrading your gear too—better lures actually make a difference, which is rare for a game this old.

It’s not perfect (the AI sometimes cheats in tournaments), but it’s way more fun than fishing has any right to be on a 16-bit console. Just don’t blame me when you mutter “one more try” at 2 AM.
