Super Battletank - War in the Gulf is one of those SNES games that makes you feel like you're actually creaking around in a tank. The first thing you'll notice is how slow and heavy the controls are—which sounds annoying, but it weirdly works? Your M1A1 Abrams lumbers across desert maps, turret groaning as you line up shots against enemy armor. Miss, and you’ll watch your shell kick up sand halfway to the horizon.
It’s not just about blasting things, though. You’ve got limited ammo, fuel that actually matters, and objectives that force you to think before charging in. The graphics are chunky by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about the way explosions send pixelated debris flying. Just don’t expect a speedrun-friendly game—this one’s all about methodical, clunky warfare. If you’ve got the patience for it, the tension really pays off when you barely scrape through a mission with 2% fuel left.
Also, the desert haze effect? Surprisingly moody for a 16-bit game.
