About Super Battleship (europe)
Super Battleship came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Synergistic Software. It was one of those many licensed titles that tried to build on a familiar concept, arriving during a time when the SNES library was expanding in all sorts of directions, including strategy games.
You command a fleet of ships, placing them on a grid before the action starts. The main goal is to hunt down and sink the entire enemy fleet before they can do the same to you. The game uses a turn based system where you call out coordinates to fire upon, listening for the distinct sound of a hit or a miss. A signature feature is the reconnaissance phase, where you can send out a plane to scan a section of the enemy's territory and reveal any ships hiding there. The pacing is deliberate and thoughtful, demanding careful deduction rather than quick reflexes. It feels like a tense, quiet duel of wits played out on a digital ocean.
