Super Baken Ou '95 is one of those weird, Japan-only SNES games that never made it overseas—which is a shame because it’s actually a blast. It’s a mahjong title, but don’t let that scare you off if you’re not into traditional tile games. The presentation is wild, with these over-the-top anime-style characters and a ton of personality.
First thing you’ll notice? The menus are all in Japanese, but if you’ve played mahjong before, you can kinda fumble your way through. The game throws you into matches with these exaggerated opponents who trash-talk (well, I assume—again, Japanese) and react dramatically when you pull off a good move. The tiles are crisp, the music’s got that classic SNES charm, and there’s even a weird single-player campaign mode where you climb ranks.
It’s definitely niche, but if you’re into retro Japanese oddities or just want a mahjong game with more flair than your grandma’s living room set, this one’s worth digging up.
