Okay, so this is one of those licensed SNES games that actually tries to do something interesting with the movie—unlike, say, the NES version where you just throw pies at people. You play as Marty, obviously, and yeah, you get the hoverboard (which handles about as well as you'd expect in 16-bit form).
The first thing you notice? The music. It’s got that classic SNES synth sound, with bits of the Back to the Future theme sneaking in. Graphics are bright and cartoony—Biff looks like he’s permanently mid-tantrum. Gameplay’s a mix of platforming and weird minigames, like avoiding bullies in 2015 or rewiring circuits in old man Peabody’s farm. Some of it’s janky, but in that way where you laugh instead of rage-quit.
Pro tip: The hoverboard section is way harder than it should be. You’ll wipe out. A lot. But when you finally nail that jump over the canyon? Feels like you just outran the Libyans all over again.
Honestly, it’s a solid time if you’re into the movie or just weird ‘90s platformers that tried way too hard to be "cinematic."
