About Super Aquatic Games, The
I first played The Super Aquatic Games on the Super Nintendo in 1993. It was developed by Millennium Interactive, and it fit right in with the other quirky sports titles of that era on the SNES. You don't see many games built entirely around underwater events, so it always stood out to me on the rental shelf.
You control one of several aquatic athletes, competing in a series of events like swimming, diving, and high jumping, all underwater. The main goal is to win gold medals across the different competitions. The controls are floaty, which makes sense for being submerged, and you have to manage your oxygen meter carefully during the longer races. Some events are simple sprints, while others, like the high jump, require precise timing to build momentum and launch yourself out of the water. The difficulty comes from mastering the unique physics of each event rather than from brutal challenge. It feels like a strange but methodical summer olympics held at the bottom of the sea.
