About Super Air Diver
Super Air Diver came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Copya System. It was part of that wave of early 90s flight simulators trying to find a home on consoles, sitting alongside other military themed games of the period. The box art promised a serious jet fighter experience, which was a bold claim for a 16 bit machine.
You pilot an F-14 Tomcat, taking on missions that involve dogfighting enemy planes and bombing ground targets. The main objective is to complete these missions by destroying all assigned targets while managing your fuel and ammunition. Signature mechanics include a first person cockpit view for targeting and a radar screen to track enemies; you also manually control your landing gear and airbrakes for takeoff and landing sequences. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise navigation and quick reflexes to survive. It feels like a demanding, sometimes unforgiving simulation that constantly tests your ability to manage multiple systems at once.
