Super Air Diver 2 is one of those Japan-only SNES gems that flew under the radar—literally. It's the sequel to Lock On (which we got in the US), but this one never made it overseas. You're basically thrown into the cockpit of a fighter jet with this weird mix of arcade action and semi-realistic controls. The first mission has you scrambling to lock onto targets while dodging missiles, and the learning curve hits hard if you're used to simpler shooters.
What stands out is how the game tries to balance speed and strategy—you can't just mash buttons and expect to survive. The targeting system takes some getting used to, and the pixel-art explosions when you finally nail a hit feel oddly satisfying. It's definitely rough around the edges, but there's something about the chunky sprite work and that classic SNES soundtrack that makes it weirdly addictive.
If you're into obscure 90s flight sims or just love digging up Super Famicom oddities, this one's worth a few sorties.
