Stunt Race FX is one of those weird, janky SNES games that somehow works despite itself. The Super FX chip chugs along, rendering these goofy cartoon cars with big ol' eyes and personalities—like someone took a Pixar concept and ran it through a 16-bit filter. The tracks twist and loop in ways that felt impossible back in '94, even if the frame rate occasionally dips into slideshow territory.
You’ll start off thinking it’s just a quirky racer, but then you hit the stunt tracks—half-pipes, corkscrews, jumps that send you spinning like a tossed hubcap. The handling’s floaty, but once you get used to it, nailing a mid-air barrel roll feels stupidly satisfying. Just don’t expect Mario Kart levels of polish; this one’s more about charm and spectacle.
It’s the kind of game you play for the novelty, then keep playing because you can’t believe it exists.
