Street Fighter is a fighting game released in 1988 for the MS-DOS platform. It was developed and published by Capcom. The game presents its action from a side view perspective, a common format for the genre.

Players control the character Ryu, a martial artist who travels across five different countries: Japan, the United States, England, China, and Thailand. The primary objective is to defeat two opponents in each location to progress. This global journey culminates in a final match against the boss character, Sagat. The game structures its progression as a linear tournament, with the overarching goal of becoming the world's greatest fighter.

Gameplay revolves around one-on-one combat where players execute special moves and attacks to deplete an opponent's health bar. A two-player mode is available, though it functions as a single match to determine which player will continue in the main single-player campaign against computer-controlled foes. After completing a country, a bonus round offers a chance to earn additional points. Upon defeating the final boss, the game resarts at a higher difficulty level, a common feature in arcade-style titles of the era.
