About Street Combat
Irem released Street Combat for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. It was a side-scrolling fighting game that arrived during a period when the genre was becoming a staple on home consoles. The game presented a simple, straightforward premise without the elaborate backstories of some of its contemporaries.
You control a martial artist navigating a series of urban stages, fighting a variety of opponents one-on-one. The main objective is to defeat all the fighters you encounter to progress. Your character can punch, kick, and perform special moves, including a sliding attack and a projectile. The pacing is quick, with matches that are often short and direct. The difficulty can feel uneven, with some opponents posing little challenge while others require precise timing to defeat. Playing it feels like a brisk, no-frills session of arcade-style combat.
