Starwing (or Star Fox, if you're not in Germany) is one of those SNES games that still feels ahead of its time. You hop into a polygonal Arwing—which looked mind-blowing back in the day—and blast through asteroid fields, dodging floating geometric shapes while monkeys in spaceships try to gun you down. Yeah, monkeys. The whole cast is these weirdly charming animal pilots, like Fox McCloud and his crew, barking radio chatter at you mid-dogfight.
The first level throws you right into the chaos: weaving between spinning cubes, taking down enemy wings, and that iconic "do a barrel roll!" moment. The frame rate chugs a bit—this was 1993, after all—but there's something addictive about the janky, low-poly chaos. Just wait until you hit the warp tunnel sections; those still make my palms sweat.
It’s short, but good luck beating the harder routes without memorizing every ambush. Corneria’s got nothing on Sector X’s nonsense.
