Starlord is a space strategy and simulation game released in 1993 for MS-DOS. It was developed by Third Millennium Software and published by MicroProse Ltd. In the game, players assume the role of a Starlord aiming to expand their influence from a single planet to control a vast sector of space containing numerous independently governed planets and installations.

The player manages a fleet and resources across multiple starbases, overseeing the allocation of revenue for essentials like fuel, food, and minerals. Progression involves trading with other factions and forming tactical agreements to strengthen one's position. To directly conquer territory, the player engages in 3D space combat, controlling a spaceship in battles against hostile forces. Between conflicts, the ship can be repaired and resupplied at friendly starports, and a commodity trading system allows for the buying and selling of goods to generate profit.

The game world features planets and installations with three distinct alignments: friendly, neutral, and hostile. Players can freely dock at friendly locations but must combat hostile ones. Neutral sites have hidden leanings, which can be assessed via a local area map; approaching an unfriendly neutral site may trigger an attack. The primary objective is to convert all planets and bases in a sector to align with the player's Empire. This is achieved through combat, where defeating an installation can result in its surrender, its capture to become an Imperial Vassal, or its destruction. Similarly, disabling or capturing enemy vessels and installations provides efficiency bonuses that contribute to advancing in military rank.
