Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on SNES is basically the console version of Interplay’s PC space sim—though don’t expect the same depth. You’re thrown into the cockpit of a Federation starship right away, managing shields, weapons, and impulse engines while trading phaser fire with Klingons or dodging asteroids. The 3D polygonal graphics were ambitious for the SNES, but they’re definitely rough around the edges now.
Missions play out like tactical puzzles—you’ll scan derelict ships, escort freighters, or fend off surprise attacks. The controls take some getting used to (good luck nailing precise maneuvers with a D-pad), but there’s something satisfying about barely scraping through a battle with your hull at 12%. Just don’t go in expecting the full PC experience—this is more of a stripped-down, arcade-style take on the Starfleet fantasy.
