Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on SNES is basically the console version of Interplay’s PC space sim—though don’t expect the same depth. You’re thrown into a cadet’s seat, managing shields, weapons, and impulse engines while trading phaser fire with Klingons or dodging asteroids. The 3D polygons are… well, very '90s, but there’s something charming about how janky the Romulan Warbirds look up close.
First mission? Probably escorting a defenseless shuttle through some nebula while getting ambushed. You’ll fumble with the controls at first (why is targeting so awkward?), but nailing a perfect torpedo hit on a cloaking Bird-of-Prey feels weirdly satisfying. Just don’t expect much story—it’s all about the dogfights. The SNES port’s a stripped-down take, but if you’re into retro Trek or just want a simpler version of the PC game’s chaos, it’s got its moments.
