Star Fox 2 (Beta1 Translated) is one of those weird SNES gems that almost didn’t exist—Nintendo shelved it back in the day, but here it is, fully translated and playable. You’ve got Fox and the gang back in their Arwings, but this time the missions flip between classic on-rails shooting and free-roaming planetary battles. It’s a cool mix, though the controls take a second to adjust if you’re used to the first game.
The beta quirks are part of the charm—some dialogue feels rough, and the pacing’s a little off, but the core gameplay holds up. The 3D still impresses for an SNES title, especially when you’re weaving through asteroid fields or diving into a planet’s atmosphere. And yeah, Andross is still up to his usual nonsense, so you’ll be juggling defense missions and all-out assaults.
If you’re into retro curios or just love Star Fox, this is a fascinating piece of gaming history. Just don’t expect it to play like a polished final release.
