Sports Illustrated Championship Football & Baseball came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Malibu Games. It was one of those sports titles that tried to cover two major American pastimes in a single cartridge, arriving during a period when many developers were experimenting with different perspectives and control schemes beyond the standard side-scrolling view.

You control either a football or baseball team, depending on which sport you select. In football, the game uses an isometric view, which makes judging passing lanes and running angles a unique challenge. You call plays from a menu before the snap, then execute them on the field. The baseball side is a more traditional simulation where you pitch, hit, and field. The main objective in both is simply to outscore your opponent. A couple of its signature mechanics include the strategic play-calling in football and the timing-based batting in baseball. The pacing can feel a bit deliberate, especially as you adjust to the unconventional camera angle in the football mode. Playing it feels like managing two distinct, slightly clunky sports experiments on one cartridge.
