Man, Maximum Carnage on SNES was one of those beat 'em ups that just oozed comic book energy. You start off swinging through New York as Spider-Man, punching thugs and webbing them up—classic stuff—but then Venom shows up, and suddenly you're tearing through enemies with his ridiculous stretchy limbs. The whole thing feels like a Saturday morning cartoon cranked up to 11.
What really sold it was the vibe. Bright red blood splashes everywhere (which felt wild for a 16-bit game), and the soundtrack had this grungy guitar riff that somehow made kicking Carnage’s goons even more satisfying. The roster of villains is stacked too—Shriek, Doppelganger, even freaking Demogoblin shows up. It’s messy, chaotic, and totally over-the-top in the best way.
Just don’t expect deep combat. You’ll mash buttons a lot, but who cares when you’re slamming dudes into neon signs as Venom? Pure comic book chaos.
