About Sparkster (japan)
Sparkster on the Super Nintendo came out in 1994 from Konami, a time when the 16-bit console was full of action platformers. It was a spin-off from the Genesis game Rocket Knight Adventures, and a different, more direct sequel was released for the Genesis around the same time.
You control Sparkster, an opossum knight in a suit of armor, and your main goal is to fight through stages to stop an empire. Your primary tool is a sword, but the signature mechanic is the rocket pack on your back. You can charge it to launch forward, bouncing off walls and enemies to navigate tricky platforming sections or to deliver a powerful dash attack. The levels are designed screen by screen, often requiring you to use the rocket pack's boost to cross large gaps or reach higher areas. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially during boss fights that test your timing and use of the rocket pack. It feels fluid and kinetic to play, a constant back and forth between careful platforming and explosive bursts of speed.
