Spanky's Quest is one of those weird, charming SNES platformers that never got the love it deserved. You play as a monkey—Spanky, obviously—who swings a magic mace to bounce fruit at enemies. Yeah, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds, but in the best way.
The first few levels ease you in with simple jumps and basic fruit attacks, but things get chaotic fast. You’ll be ricocheting melons off walls, dodging floating eyeballs, and figuring out how to reach platforms that seem just out of reach. The controls take a second to click—Spanky’s movement is a little floaty—but once they do, it’s weirdly satisfying to chain bounces together.
Visually, it’s pure early ‘90s SNES: bright colors, goofy enemy designs, and that slightly off-kilter charm you only got from mid-tier releases back then. The music’s catchy too, in that "I’ll hum this for days" kind of way.
It’s not the hardest game out there, but some of the later stages will test your timing. If you’re into quirky platformers with a side of monkey chaos, this one’s a hidden gem worth digging up.
