About Soul & Sword (japan)
Soul & Sword came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by NCS Corporation. It was part of that wave of action RPGs on the system that tried to blend exploration with real time combat, sitting alongside other titles that were figuring out how to translate the feel of a grand adventure onto a cartridge.
You control a lone warrior navigating a world split into distinct, screen by screen areas. Your main goal is to explore dungeons and defeat monsters to collect the scattered pieces of the Triforce. You have a sword for close combat and a bow for attacking from a distance, which you switch between depending on the enemy. The pacing is deliberate; you methodically clear rooms of enemies, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush in. Playing it feels like a methodical test of your patience and reflexes as you chart the map and manage your limited resources.
