About Soul & Sword
I first played Soul & Sword on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1993. It was published by NCS Corporation, and it fit right in with the kind of action adventures that were common on the SNES at the time. The game presents a straightforward fantasy setting without a lot of the complex lore that other titles from that era sometimes relied on.
You control a lone hero navigating a series of side-scrolling stages. Your main goal is to fight through each level, defeating monsters and finding keys to unlock doors. The combat is simple; you use a sword for close attacks and can find a bow for shooting enemies from a distance. The levels are designed screen by screen, so you clear one area of foes before moving to the next. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush in without watching enemy patterns. Playing it feels like a methodical test of your timing and patience.
