About Soldiers Of Fortune
I first played Soldiers of Fortune on the Super Nintendo back in 1993. It was developed by The Bitmap Brothers, a name I recognized from other games. On a system filled with platformers and RPGs, this one stood out immediately as something different, a two-player run and gun that felt more tactical than most.
You control one of two mercenaries, Hawk or Lash, working your way through hostile territories. The main goal is straightforward: fight through each stage, rescue hostages, and defeat the final warlord. The game is built on screen by screen exploration; you clear one area of enemies before the screen scrolls to reveal the next. You collect different weapons, from flamethrowers to grenade launchers, and managing your limited ammo for each becomes a constant concern. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing, demanding precise movement and smart weapon selection to survive the constant ambushes. Playing it feels like a tense, coordinated assault where every shot and every step matters.
