About Soccer Kid (japan)
Soccer Kid came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Krisalis Software. It was part of that wave of early 90s platformers, a time when developers were experimenting with new hooks for the genre. The game's original concept was by Dean Lester, initially conceived as a potential sequel to Mad Professor Mariati before the idea evolved into its own project.
You control a boy in a striped shirt, navigating levels screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue the world's stolen trophies. Your primary tool is a magical soccer ball you can kick at enemies; you can also bounce on the ball for a higher jump or perform a special overhead kick. The pacing is brisk, and the levels demand precision, especially in later stages where timing your kicks and jumps becomes crucial. It feels like a clever mix of running and puzzle solving, where your footwork is your greatest asset.
