Sim Ant came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Maxis. It was part of that wave of simulation games on the console, a strange and specific concept next to the platformers and RPGs of the time. You don't control a hero or a spaceship; you control an ant.

You start as a single worker ant in a backyard colony, viewed from a top-down perspective. Your main goal is to expand your territory and eventually defeat the rival red ant colony and the spider that acts as a boss. You dig tunnels, gather food like seeds and dead insects, and fight other ants. The game is split between the underground view of your nest and the above-ground map where you forage. It can be slow and methodical, requiring you to manage your ant's energy and coordinate with the computer-controlled members of your colony. Directing a tiny insect through the immense dangers of a lawn creates a unique sense of scale and vulnerability.
