Silva Saga II is one of those SNES RPGs that flew under the radar but deserves way more love. Right from the start, you're thrown into this classic fantasy world where you've got to assemble a party—I remember waffling between the archer and the mage for way too long before realizing I needed both.
The combat's got that satisfying turn-based rhythm, but with a twist where positioning actually matters. Some enemies hit harder up close, others from range, so you can't just mash attack. And the soundtrack? Absolute banger—that overworld theme still gets stuck in my head sometimes.
It's got that old-school charm where towns actually feel alive with little side stories, not just vendor pitstops. Just don't expect hand-holding—there's a dungeon early on with a puzzle that had me scribbling notes like some kind of fantasy detective. If you dig 16-bit RPGs with meaty combat and a proper adventure vibe, this one's a solid time capsule.
