Side Pocket on SNES is one of those pool games that nails the feel of real billiards without overcomplicating things. You start off with a simple 8-ball match—the physics are surprisingly solid for a 16-bit game, and the way the balls roll and collide just feels right. The overhead view takes a second to get used to, but once you adjust, lining up shots becomes second nature.
There’s a career mode where you travel to different pool halls, each with its own vibe and tougher opponents. The AI isn’t a pushover, either—miss a few easy shots, and suddenly you’re sweating over a tricky bank shot to stay in the game. Two-player mode is where it really shines, though. Nothing beats trash-talking your friend after sinking the 8-ball on them unexpectedly.
It’s not flashy, but the retro arcade charm holds up. If you’ve got a soft spot for old-school sports games, this one’s a solid pick.
