Shiroi Ring e Twinkle Little Star is one of those weird, charming little SNES games that never made it outside Japan. You play as a girl named Twinkle who's trying to collect these glowing white rings—hence the title—while bouncing around surreal, pastel-colored dreamscapes. The controls are floaty in that old-school platformer way, but once you get used to it, there's something hypnotic about hopping between clouds and dodging these... I don't even know, sentient musical notes?
It's got that early '90s Japanese aesthetic—think Kirby meets a children's picture book—with these soft, almost watercolor backgrounds. The music's oddly relaxing too, even when you're getting chased by a giant smiling moon. Definitely not a game for people who need fast-paced action, but if you like obscure, vibey platformers, it's a neat little time capsule.
Also, no idea why they didn't localize this—Twinkle's adventure is way more interesting than half the stuff we got back then.
