Shin Naki No Ryuu is one of those SNES mahjong games that feels like it was made for late-night sessions. The tiles have this nice, chunky 90s look to them, and the background music is weirdly soothing—like you're playing in some back-alley parlor in Tokyo. It's not flashy, but the controls are solid, and the CPU opponents actually put up a decent fight once you get past the beginner tables.
What I like is how it doesn't overcomplicate things. You just pick your table, deal the tiles, and try not to embarrass yourself when the AI suddenly declares "Riichi" out of nowhere. There's a weird charm to the little character portraits too—they all look like they've seen some things. If you're into retro mahjong, this one's a solid time capsule.
