Shin Megami Tensei on SNES is where the whole demon-summoning madness really took off—before Persona stole the spotlight. You start as some random guy in Tokyo, and then boom: demons everywhere, nukes drop, and suddenly you're negotiating with pixies and ogres while crawling through post-apocalyptic subway tunnels. Classic '90s vibes.
The combat's tough as nails, and recruiting demons feels like talking your way out of a back-alley shakedown—one wrong answer and they'll just attack instead. The atmosphere? Grimy, eerie, and weirdly immersive for a 16-bit game. You can tell Atlus was already cooking up something special here.
Fair warning: the dungeon crawling will test your patience, and the morality system isn't kidding around. But if you can handle the grind, it's a fascinating time capsule of where this series started.
