About Shin Megami Tensei (japan)
Shin Megami Tensei came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed and published by Atlus. It was part of that era on the SNES where Japanese role playing games were really starting to build complex worlds, moving beyond simple fantasy settings into something darker and more modern.
You control a lone student navigating a desolate, post apocalyptic Tokyo. Your main goal is to survive the demon invasion and influence the fate of the ruined world. The gameplay is built on a few key systems: you explore the city and its dungeons screen by screen, engage in turn based combat where you can talk to demons instead of just fighting them, and recruit them to fight alongside you. The pace is deliberate, and the difficulty is unrelenting, demanding careful management of your party and resources. Playing it feels like being thrown into a harsh, unpredictable world where every conversation with a demon could be your salvation or your downfall.
