Shin Mahjong is one of those classic SNES mahjong games that feels like digging up a time capsule. The tiles have that slightly pixelated charm, and the background music is this weirdly soothing synth loop that somehow never gets old. At first glance, it's just standard Japanese mahjong rules—no crazy gimmicks—but the AI actually puts up a decent fight once you bump up the difficulty.
What I like is how straightforward it is. No fluff, no story mode, just you and three CPU opponents trying to out-tile each other. The controls take a second to get used to if you're playing on an emulator, but once it clicks, it's weirdly addictive. I lost way too many late-night rounds to that smug-looking old man character.
If you're into retro mahjong or just want something simple to zone out with, this one's a solid pick. Just don't blame me when you realize it's 3 AM and you're still trying to get that last winning hand.
